Perhaps Maggie's video will do the trick. This Jack Russell almost defeated a class of 7-year-olds in a Math quiz. All the children were astonished at terrier's wit. They never thought a dog could be so good at Math. They all say she is a genius. Although, the children still won the game by a half shot.
But Math is not the only trick that these lovely furballs can do. They are also good at finding lost items. They could even be your backup GPS. As Coren noted in Live Science, dogs are pretty smart. They can easily find the quickest way to a favorite chair.
What is most important to remember is that dogs have emotions, too. Their behavior is more like that of teenagers. They can be quite sensitive but not very competitive. They don't mind getting equal treats as long as they get a treat.
Looking into a Dog's Brain
It is quite difficult to read a dog's mind. Your pup may not feel the same way as you do. You can teach them every trick you know and follow your command. But a dog does not understand the abstract concepts of the words you speak. That is perhaps the reason dog trainers need to demonstrate those tricks with gestures.
Gregory Berns is a neuroscientist and he has a dog named Callie. Interested to know how dog's think, he conducted an MRI test with his pooch. The experiment made him say that language makes a big difference between human and canine thinking. Nevertheless, dogs still make great and adorable pets. Just don't make them too smart or you'll get a headache.
